I’m always trying to diversify my books and reading habits and try new things, so my blog is a bit of a mash-up of my literary adventures. The blog started off as an experiment to encourage myself to review books more often and it has personally been a huge success for me. I’m about one year in to my blogging journey and I’ve been reading and reviewing more books than ever!
In 2018, I created a monthly challenge for myself to try and be more intentional about the types of books that I read. I had some great months where I challenged myself to read books that expanded my viewpoints on various social issues, and I read some daunting books that have been on my TBR for ages. I’ve documented all of my challenges for 2018, but I’ve decided to take a break from them in 2019 to explore other reading initiatives. I found the challenges really inspiring in early 2018, but towards the end of the year it started to feel like more of an obligation and it wasn’t as enjoyable.
I’m thinking of maybe picking a more general reading challenge for 2019 such as Book Riots Read Harder Challenge, Pop Sugar’s Reading Challenge, or the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge (although this one seems a little ambitious). Either way, I welcome recommendations on good challenges that I can chip away at over the span of a year vs having to work on every single month.
In addition to reading challenges, I have been starting to work with some publishers over the last year and have started reviewing some advanced reader copies. This has been a lot of fun for me and so I will be reviewing and promoting early book releases on here from time to time. My favourite book genres include historical fiction, literary fiction, fantasy, young adult, and mystery thrillers. But I also dabble with science fiction and graphic novels. For those of you who are interested, I do have another blog that I’ve been using on and off over the years (mostly to post about travel – my other hobby) and I will be continuing to use that blog on occasion if you want to check it out.
